Sunflower viewing No.265-Jul 31, 2017

Generally speaking, sunflower is one of typical flowers that bloom in summer.
Speaking of sunflower, it looks good with the figure flourishinging with an
exuberance under the sun in midsummer.

According to the community magazine, now is the best time to view
sunflowers in the sunflower field making effective use of fallow rice fields in
Fudouhama, Minamiyamada town near my place.

My place ➡ Sunflower field in Fudouhama, Minamiyamada Town

Today in Kusatsu, the maximum daytime temperature is 35 degrees Celsius.
So, I dared to go out to view them at the hottest time of the early-afternoon
under the burning sun.

As usual, I put on my favourite hat and did that by favourite bike ESCAPE.
When I say my favourite bike, I'm not referring to my hybrid bicycle, but the
same one with a basket in the front side which has recently been normalized
as a city bike for daily life.

When I pedaled along Hama-kaido Road from my place, I got to the sunflower
field in ten and several minutes.
It is located in a portion of the rice fields between two rural communities lined
with farm houses.
Though Mt. Hiei is a little bit far from the sunflower field, the latter benefits
from the scenery of the former.
Several of viewers were taking pictures of sunflowers by their smartphone's
cameras or high-grade telecameras.

First, through the kindness of a girl student who came to see sunflowers by
motorbike, I had my commemorative picture taken with sunflowers behind me.

The fallow rice field with an area of approximatelt 3,300 square meters is
filled with approximately 40,000 full bloomed sunflowers which are dense
enough that their leaves touch among themselves.
They are now at their best and have a lot of large flowers like the sun.

It's said sunflower has a variety of species.
The species grown in this field is hybrid sunflower.
It is the sunflower with a plant height of 150 cm or so that was developed for
the formation of a good landscape and also is a less fear of falling down.

The name sunflower may derive from the impression that the blooming plant
appears to slowly turn its flower toward the sun.
The corolla of sunflowers in this field also point perfectly toward the east.
It actually has very strong heliotropism, hasn't it?
Its flower language is “I stare at only you.”
I can accept it because of an apposite remark.

I decided to leave here after viewing them for about half an hour.
On the way home, I entered the cafe “Soleiyu” to have a lunch break.

The proprietress of the cafe was chatting with a woman who is a customer.
She asked me a question, “Where did you go by bike on such a hot day ?”
After I answered her, “I went out to view sunflowers at the field near here.”,
I had a good conversation with them.

According to her, the fallow rice fields increase in this region due to an
acreage-reduction policy of rice and the aging of farming community and
thereby the fields in which the weeds overgrow ugly up the surrounding landscape.
In Fudohama district, the community organization consisting of the
neighborhood association and others lunched mainly a volunteer activity to
creat a good scenery with sunflowers in their community.
Therefore, such a beautiful landscape was created.
The beautiful landscape attracts media attention now and many people also
visit here to view sunflowers from within the prefecture.

I'm sure fallow rice field in which the weeds overgrow is ugly.
I hope government which has promoted the acreage-reduction policy and local
government with farmers think hard about the fallow field.

I think that there are some ideas in consideration of the characteristics of the
community.
For example, it's good to creat a good scenery in the community like this
sunflower
field, a flower garden as tourism resources and more aggressively a solar
photovolatic power station by installation of solar panel.

I thought about such things while chatting with them.

Well, I was cheered up viewing sunflowers in full bloom over the field under
the burning sun today.
I intend to do my best without losing to the sunflowers.
