There were rice paddies behind my house till 5 years ago.
They became fallow fields after that and lay waste for some time.
When I said to the farmer who is owner of the paddies, “It's a waste to
be
fallow field”, he responded that it can't be helped because of the aging
of
his family and the lack of successor.
After that, a local food supplier that leased the paddy field from him
got
started using it as a vegetable farm a year before and a wide variety of
vegetables is now harvested.

This supplier has entered the school lunch business in Kusatsu City and
fresh vegetables from the farm have been supplied for itself as food materials
for the school lunch, I heard.
I think it's good for the land to be effectively utilized in a productive
manner.

Not only green vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, sunny lettuce but
also
carrot, eggplant, squarsh, tomato and so on are grown in the farm.

With the advent of the farm, the scene I have never seen before came to
be
recently observed.
Though there are also rice paddies near my house, recently I have seen
cabbage white butterflies flying only in the farm.
Especially, many of them can be seen mainly in cabbage patches.
You can't recognize the butterflies in the above picture because their
images
are too small.

I can't comprehend why the cabbage white butterflies appear around green
vegetables like cabbage some time after they are planted.
In addition, even in this wet season.
I had an image in my mind of it as insect that I often see in early spring
when field mustard blooms.

And so, I borrowed the help again from Wikipedia on “Cabbage white butterfly”.
I could understand the reason from it.
According to it, white butterfly can be seen for a long term from around
March to around October and arises 4 to 5 times a year, especially 7 times
in the temperate region.
It means that white butterfly lays eggs and develops to the adult stage
4 to 7
times a year.
In addition, I knew the larval food plant is cruciferous plants such as
cabbage, field mustard, broccoli and so on.
Another big question on my mind is where white butterfly comes from at
the patch where cruciferous plants like cabbage are planted.

White butterfly may have a special visual sense or olfactory one.
Does it comes flying from nowhere by identifying the location of the cabbage
patches with either descrimination power of them ?
White butterfly's eggs already attached to cabbage seedlings when they
are
planted hatched at a later date and then became an adult ?
At any rate, I'm sure the reason is either one of the two.
It comforts me to see cabbage white butterflies flying.
It's the scene that can be seldom seen in the big city.
