I took part in the yacht race hosted by SMYC (Sunrise Marina Yacht Club)
as one of crew member for the first time this year.
The number of today's crew members is 7 including Captain Tada.
I play the role of moving weight as usual.
It's sunny and temperatures is 23 ℃ in Ito City.
The yacht-race course is a sausage course that was set off the Sunrise
Marina
in Ito.
Each yacht is supposed to make 2 runs in a counterclockwise direction between
start/finish line and orange-colored buoy in the shape of traiangular pyramid
set
off the coast of Ito.
We repeat this race twice.

The Aioi sail out off the Sunrise Marina and then is warming up lifting
a main
sail and jib sail.
The rival yachts are already getting ready for starting up off the coast.

The following is a group of yachts 10 minutes before starting.
11 yachts are fine-tuning to start timely near the start line.

The first race.
At 10:30, all the yachts are off and running at a starting signal by striking
of
a club's flag on the committee boat.
Aioi nicely started and followed Son of Bachus.
The following is a group of yachts sailing off the coast of Ito.

As soon as Aioi turns around the orange-colored buoy set off Ito, we hoist
a red
gennaker to catch the light wind.

After that, unfortunately, Aioi get passed by 3 rival yachts and finished
fourth.
Sea Platypus of trimaran also took part in the race this time.
The red and blue gennaker is brilliant !

The 2nd race.
Aioi starts keeping a giant gennaker as a new weapon hoisted.
This cloth is thicker than that of the gennaker hoisted in the first race.
However, Aioi had a hard time getting off the starting line because it
couldn't
catch the wind nicely in its sail.
We lost about 5 minutes while taking time trying to start.
When Aioi left the starting line tenth, it has already been greatly distanced
from
the leading group.
Though some of crew members tried hard to trim the gennaker, Aioi couldn't
catch the wind in its sail nicely.
I felt to the untrained eye it's difficult for us to judge in a visual
manner whether
this gennaker is catching the light wind.

After all, Aioi finished sixth.
At any rate, Aioi carried out a test run with a new
gennaker set.

At 2:30 pm, an annual party was held at cafe restaurant Izu-kogen beer
within
a road station Ito Marine Town.
We had an evaluation meeting and received reports on the results of the
race
while having a pleasant chat over all-you-can-drink beer or wine.

Aioi finished fifth in this race as stated below.
